Delivers steel piles to ICTSI Berth 6 Expansion Project

CBPI recently undertook its first project shipment for 2009 when it delivered in record
time more than 2,900 metric tons of steel piles for ICTSI’s Berth 6 expansion project.

The project shipment consists of the following:

142 pcs   1500mm OD x 20mm thick x 24.9m long steel tube piles;
30 pcs     700mm OD x 12mm thick x 25.9m long steel tube piles;
2 pcs        12m x 1-ton spreader bars; and,

10 cans    paint and hardener

It arrived from Batam at the Manila International Container Port (MICP) on board m/v “Zelada Desgagnes” on March 1, 2009.

The project operation started with the mobilization of equipment and personnel to MICP as early as the night of February 28. It consisted of twenty-seven (27) personnel, two (2) telescopic cranes (100-tonner and 80-tonner), six (6) extendable trailers with tractors, two (2) dolly trailers with tractors, one (1) 12-axle line hydraulic transporter with ballasted tractor and CBPI’s brand new container office.

The management team of CBPI, led by its president, Norman Fulgencio, was in full force as early as 8:30 in the morning of Sunday, March 1, to jointly supervise, coordinate, and oversee with ICTSI  the discharging and transport operation of the steel piles. The vessel discharging started at 2:03 pm. All the trucks were lined up at berth 5 ready to receive the discharged piles for transfer to berth 6’s laydown area. The first to be discharged was pile marked B1 and was promptly trucked to its designated laydown area at berth 6. Each “B” pile (1500mm OD) weighs 19.4 tons while the “T” piles (700mm OD) 5.4 tons.

Prior to the shipment’s arrival, Aqua Terra Logistics (ATL), the service provider that handled the loading of the piles in Batam, relayed to CBPI that it only took them 2.5 days (60 hrs) to load this entire shipment. CBPI quietly and efficiently completed the vessel discharging operation at 1035H of March 3 or in 44.5 hours or less than two days. The vessel’s allowable discharge time is 3.5 days. The trucking and unloading of the piles at the yard were completed 3 hours later the same day of March 3.

Other value-added services provided by CBPI during this operation were stenciling of piles for sequential numbering, re-touching of piles, two-tier stacking of piles, and segregation of certain piles as requested by Hanjin Construction, the company undertaking the berth 6 construction.

Refrigerated Containers Frequently Asked Questions

What is a refrigerated “reefer” van?

Refrigerated container or reefer is a shipping container used in intermodal freight transport that is refrigerated for the transportation of temperature sensitive cargo.
Container refrigeration systems are designed to maintain product temperatures.
While a reefer will have an integral refrigeration unit, they rely on external power, from electrical power points at a land based site or on a container ship. When being transported over the road on a trailer they can be powered from diesel powered generators ("gen sets") which attach to the container whilst on road journeys.

What is the capacity for a 20 ftr standard reefer?

Measurement: 26 cbm
Weight: 12 tons

How do we benefit from using Reefer van?
